Poem from ‘Clifftop’ chapbook.
Poem selected for the chapbook ‘CLIFFTOP’. This is the second chapbook to be published by Ellis Wells.
BANSHEE
As the wailing grew ever closer, the serenity over.
Undertones came before the sorrow-filled howl.
To give into this song,
It would mean death.
O, but to resist,
The pain would be too much.
As the icy hand of the banshee takes hold,
the sweet relief to be lead away.
To be free from the pain,
but in it's place pain given to another.
The night air left with the mourner's cries.
